With Labor Day passing, and the kids back in school, it always feels like I should be pulling out scarves and sweaters. Then I realize, I live in LA, and it is still incredibly HOT. But I have an idea to pretend that it’s not 97 degrees in the Valley, a trip to Iceland, also in the Valley.
Iceland is an indoor ice skating rink, in Van Nuys, which has open skating hours on the weekends. Between skating sessions they even have bumper cars you can ride around in on the ice! So dig out your hats, scarves, and mittens, if you have any, and tell your family that you are going on an adventure.
You can rent skates at Iceland for the whole family. Even my two and a half year old could take a turn on the rink for Iceland provides walkers you can rent for the little ones to hold for balance. My six year old clung to the side of the rink a bit until her athletic Dad (a former ice hockey player, which was news to me, actually) whisked her around the rink. The whole family got some exercise, had a lot of laughs, and then snuggled up for some hot chocolate. The bumper cars were a huge hit as well, a safe place for your little ones to grab hold of the wheel. Okay, so we just spun around in circles when they steered, but it was a blast. My kids can’t wait to return. I may even sign them up for some lessons. Iceland offers an extensive range of classes for adults and kids. Cool off and blow off some steam with your family, go to Iceland for the afternoon.
